Overcoming Panic

Overcoming panic disorder can be a huge ask of anyone who suffers from these attacks, it will probably seem an impossible and terrifying task and without the correct understanding, belief and methods it will prove to be just that.

There are also certain things that should be avoided within your diet when overcoming panic disorder, the most obvious is alcohol as it can significantly intensify anxiety levels leading to a disruption in the nervous system and the inducement of a panic attack.

Caffeine is a stimulant that causes the blood vessels to shrink and the heart to beat faster, people who don’t suffer from panic attacks will not normally be affected when consuming caffeine, however, anyone who is overcoming panic disorder could find the stimulant too powerful to handle.

Any food and drinks with high sugar content are also best kept away from as this can cause very severe mood swings. When the body consumes sugar, blood sugar levels rise and then drop extremely low in a very short amount of time, this can leave a person feeling irritable, anxious and nervous leading to a possible panic attack.

High-carbohydrate foods such as white bread, pasta, rice and some processed foods usually turn to sugar, and that is why they should also be avoided.

Exercise is an excellent way of ‘clearing your mind’ and whether it is a trip to the gym or a brisk walk in the fresh air it provides the perfect outlet for releasing tension and stress and a good route to overcoming panic.

Although a good diet and some exercise will condition your mind and body the most important thing is to develop the right mindset and this may seem difficult to comprehend at first but it is imperative if you wish to rid yourself of panic attack disorder.

Plainly speaking, you must to face your fears and force yourself to do the things that you have avoided doing before, things like going to the supermarket, coffee shop or even just going outdoors.

By gaining control over these feelings you will begin to realise that you can reach your goal of overcoming panic and anxiety disorder, you will become less fearful of an impending attack as you start to understand exactly what a panic attack is and what it isn’t – you know there will be no physical harm to yourself and you know that when panic attacks you are able to deal with it effectively.

By analyzing the situation and taking control you will become more confident in how to stop panic attacks, you will become less fearful and happier in the knowledge that you can start living a normal lifestyle.
